Call this a break

Rhyl 0 Suduva 0

Four days after World Cup Final the new season has started, ye gods year-round football, even us addicts need a break you know. Rhyl have drawn Lithuanian opposition in the UEFA Cup again, this time in the form of Suduva. I can't really summon up much enthusiam on account of it being Rhyl and not Bangor playing tonight.

On the way to the ground I saw some of the fans of Suduva. They disproved the idea that British people won't need to learn another languge as everyone will be speaking English before long as not one of them understood me. Their matching headgear gave them a look of a middle aged tour group so I knew they weren't the Suduva ultras, unless Lituanian casuals are ploughing a new style furrow. Anyway they seemed pleasant enough.

I arrived early enough to have a look around and watch the players warming-up. I saw my nemesis, Lee Hunt. This is a player whose very presence on the pitch should constitute ungentlemanly conduct, a headless chicken with sharpened elbows. He used to play for Bangor and seemed a bit twattish there too. There were more Suduva fans inside and they were accompanied by huge banners, so that meant that there were about 40 away fans in total. This is a respectable amount especially in comparison to teams in the Welsh Premier.

As the kick-off arrived so did the fans and the ground looked full. Suduva looked good, better than Atlantas last year, as Rhyl struggled to stop all of the moves.

The second half was much more of a contest as both teams made chances, Rhyl made slightly more so Hulse will be moaning about the result. 0-0 Ft

After about 10 minutes of the game I started to think that I should put my North Walian identity above the petty sectarian feuding on the Welsh Premier website. I stared to think that it wouldn't be so bad if Rhyl won; good for the profile of the league and earn a better UEFA co-efficient which would lead to better draws eventually. While I was mulling over this quandry the strains of "Always shit on the Bangor Side of the Bridge" and other anti-Bangor songs were aired by the Rhyl faithful, including a distasteful one about Bangor's manager, Clayton Blackmore. This made me stop and think a little more. After deliberating and weighing up the evidence with the air of Socrates I hoped Rhyl would get hammered 10-0 in two weeks.
