Airbus grounded and same old, same old.

Bangor City 3 Airbus 1

This match took a long time to become comfortable. Bangor wasted, narrowly missed or didn't take most of their chances and so nerves weren't calmed until the last minute.

Airbus had looked surprisingly good going forward in patches but had to make 3 changes before half time so that can't have helped. In fact my newly accquired friend from Airbus said that they hadn't played as well all season. When Bangor win these games, which we lost last season, you know that we are getting better. Now all I had to worry about was Wales later on in the evening.

Ahhhh Wales. Well, same old story I'm afraid, apart from the Gould era that is. Wales looked like gaining a good result against a talented Czech Republic team but then lost. The tale of the match; Wales look good on the break, a blatently offside Czech goal (no players between the attacker and the goal) a lucky but not undeserved Welsh equaliser and finally the Czechs scored their winner from a slightly miss-hit shot.

This was after a game in which a slightly fraught defensive performance in the first 20 minutes gave the impression that it would be a difficult group for us. When Wales passed the ball around they looked more comfortable and eventually dangerous on the break. It could be argued that only poor finishing separated Wales from the points in Teplice as Bellamy had a few good chances. It may have been providence that stopped me from going to this as I may not have been able to take the result with my hopes raised AGAIN.

However, we do look good enough for false dawns to be resurrected and plenty of defeats in opening qualifiers suggests that hope may not be lost. Optimism, the opiate of the Welsh fan.
