A mighty Victory

North Wales Coast U18s 5 Northern Ireland U19s 0
Friendly, played in Colwyn Bay

You know you've got a problem when a night out at junior level football is looked forward to. My main motivation for going to this is to see if Mel McGuinnes, Sion Edwards or Anthony Wilson would be playing.

I arrived at Llanelian Road thinking that I was only about 10 minutes late; the Daily Post had informed me that the Kick-Off was at 7:30. I found out I was mistaken as soon as I overheard someone say "...and I didn't know it was 7 o'clock either." Bloody Daily Post, call me weird but I do like to see most oif a match. So we only had about 5 minutes left of the half but at least I got in for nothing, every cloud.... I saw Harry and we had a nice chat during half time.

Early in the second half, North Wales scored and I thought "Yes, we're ahead!" Harry told me it was 3-0. For some reason I had neglected to enquire about the score prior to this point. Mel looked good and he set up that goal. Sion wasn't playing and Anthony was in a Llandrillo College tracksuit which was an indication that he wasn't a sub. In fact Mel looked so good that a Northern Irish player took him out with a nasty challenge.

North Wales seemed to cut through the Orange defences with ease. Gari Thomas from Prestatyn, the scorer of the third goal, scored two more. After this Northern Ireland came more into it and created some opportunities without looking like scoring.

The fact that nearly all of the Northern Irish team was professional meant that this was a very good victory. You could tell they were pros by the professional type aggression they displayed. You could also tell that they were thinking; "Yeah, you might be winning but at least I am a Professional." Whatever the level it's always nice to see the loyalist enclave soundly beaten.
