I had to get to the ground early today, I had to help collect votes for player of the year. I had the glamorous end of the assignment, I got to ask the Chairman, the president and Players' dads. When I asked other people several had difficulty choosing as it hasn't been a vintage season, the spirit of democracy prevents me from disclosing any details.
Joel met me in the ground just before we had to change ends. While this is a bit of a problem usually, we all like to spend the second half attacking the St.Paul's end, today it afforded me the chance to get a few more votes. Conservatively speaking I reckon I asked about a sixth of the crowd. I also kept asking people who hadn't been before, were new or supported other teams. So the number would be higher if you took all of those into account.
The game was a bit boring to be honest, the wind was blowing into our faces so that may explain why Port Talbot failed to make any progress in an attacking sense. The balls kept flying leftwards. Port's Lee John looked good on the TV on Wednesday but didn't have much of the ball so he didn't trouble us. We forced a few chances but none were really clear-cut, consequently it was 0-0 at the break.
A cold beer may not have been favoured by many today owing to the wind but it was oddly refreshing. After our refreshment it was back out to the field of dreams. In the second half we tried but failed to create any clear-cut chances. Unfortunately we couldn't carry on with the level of performance from last week.
The most frustrating thing was the fact that Port Talbot never managed more than a couple of efforts on target during the game. Frustrating is the word, there can't be many worse results as neither team gains anything and it feels like a waste of an afternoon.
Something draws to a close..
