Penamenmawr Phoenix 4 Rhyl Nomads 3
Clwyd League Division One
'Twas Cup Final morning and all around the ground the only thing stirring was a Scally with an attitude. A Foul had been committed by Rhyl's no.8 and the Rhyl no.9 congratulated the perpetrator on his conduct. Fate had chosen my team in this match. Rhyl followed the prologue with two further diabolical challenges, one must assume this is their typical style. Their no.4 also looked like a twat, he virtually laughed in the face of a Pen player after he'd narrowly failed to keep the ball in. Rhyl passed the Scally test with flying colours when, despite playing in the manner of thugs, they bitterly complained after a perceived foul wasn't awarded in their favour.
It always nice to have a team to hate during a match but one shouldn't let that overshadow the match itself. This was an exciting match. Pen went 2-0 up. One of their officials expressed his surprise; most of the players had been watching boxing whilst hammered last night. Rhyl made it 2-1 with a good finish.
About 20 minutes into the second half Rhyl were winning 3-2. Rhyl' s no.9 enhanced his Scally credentials when he began arguing with Pen's bench. He continued his gesturing even after Pen had equalised. 10 minutes from the end Pen's no.10 smashed the ball into the top corner from just outside the area. Ha!!! Take that no.9!!! Remarkably the players shook hands afterwards, the human spirit triumphs again.
