Bangor City 1 Aberystywyth Town 4
Welsh Premier League
This is quite simply one of the most inexplicable matchEs that I've ever been to. Joel, another Jet setter declared his desire to accompany me to Farrar Road for this game. I wondered how he would regard his experience, would he be lucky? We left at 1 from Llandudno with hopes high after last week's 5-0 demolition of Port Talbot. If I'm any judge of human character then Joel seemed mildly excited about the prospect of watching the mighty blues. Not even the wet weather could dampen the enthusiasm, only our hair.
I had a nervous look around the ground beacuse there had been talk of the Aber Psycho Squad (APS) paying us a visit, this may have explained the presence of the scallies behind us. Where were they? There was only about 10 damp Aber fans by the look of it no so much of an invasion as first feared.
All was good so far as Bangor kicked off and started to take the play towards Aber's goal. Bangor looked like they could win this game too but when you bare in mind that we won the last game 5-0 then the players looked a little short of urgency. Aber then scored from about 35 yards out, surely a goal of the season contender. Bangor appeared stunned by this as they didn't appear likely to score for the rest of the first half. We had no reason to worry though as in the second half we were attacking the end where the goals usually go in.
At half-time I asked a few of the Aber fans if they could tell me where the dreaded APS were and they said that as it was raining they wouldn't be coming, they were definitely right up there with the Headhunters.
Things did look good again as Bangor set about the job well and pressed Aber back. This continued until Aber scored again. It all came from a free kick that should not have been awarded in the first place and then, to rub salt into the wound, they didn't even take it from the correct place. I had the feeling they'd score and they did. Bangor got back into the game almost straight away with a deflected shot from Walshy.
The expected onslaught started but was halted abruptly when Aber scored again. When they scored their fourth it became a joke result. Aber aren't, never have been and never will be that much better than the blues. It pains me to see us making the last two teams we've played at home look so good, especially when you look at the final scores.
Aber's goalie didn't endear himself to others when he was writhing around in agony on the ground one minute and then spirinting across the area when the blues players' backs are turned the next. He evidentlally thought that he was funny and clever; He tried to show his jovial side by addressing his goal celebrations towards us. Aber's general timewasting didn't improve the mood of the home fans either.
The referee looked as if he'd lost control of the match because he seemed to book every other player and even managed to send off two Bangor players in the last five minutes. With the suspensions piling up, what sort of team will we have next week at Porthmadog? One of the main reasons for Bangor's problems this season is the crappy standard of the referees. And this is not just my sour grapes as nearly everyone, from all clubs, agrees that the refs in the Welsh Premier are shit.
It's this sort of match that might put people of coming to see Bangor; we were poor, the Ref was abysmal and it rained; in short, not the best advertisement for the Welsh Premier League. Having said that Joel said he'd come again as he was impressed by the vocalness of my fellow blues. Not all hope has been extinguished.
Just when you think that you've seen it all
