Now off to Glan Conwy

Glan Conwy 3 Llanrug United 1
FAW Trophy

When Bangor aren't playing or playing in South Wales like today I'm left with a dilemma, who do I go to watch? This dilemma wasn't helped today by the fact that no-one was playing at home, not Colwyn Bay or Llandudno, Rhyl were but I don't want them to have any more of my money than usual.

In the Weekly News it was evident from their fixture lists that the Conwy Valley was going to be my destination for today. Was it to be Blaenau, Llanrwst or Glan Conwy? What a choice. Blaenau's too far and the train wasn't due to leave until 2 hours after the game, what do you do with two hours in Blaenau? The rain is constant and when mixed with boredom suicide usually follows. (I've got bad memories from childhood). Llanrwst, I've been there and have no desire to repeat the experience so it had to be Gamn Conwy.

I had to go to the shop in Glan Conwy for a drink beforehand and I noticed a poster; Glan Conwy were going to play Llanrug United. With the joys of Llanrug still fresh in my memory I wondered if would they employ the same neanderthal approach as they had against Bangor. Had they had they been able to get hold of copy of the a Rules from after the 1860s? Would their charming secretary be in attendence?

I arrived at the ground to see the players warming up and I noticed a couple of Glan Conwy players that I've crossed paths with previously. I also noticed everyone's favourite bald assassin form Llanrug, Terry Williams. To put it another way, the chief culprit for commiting attempted GBH against Bangor.

While the players were coming off someone said to me "Didn't you want to go to Port Talbot then?" It was none other than John Newell, the scorer of Rhyl's first on Tuesday and moonlighting for Llanrug. This was another indication of the closeness of players and supporters at this level and very warming to think that he recognised me. It also softened my hardness towards Llanrug.

Now was the time to get the flag photographed as there seemed to be no busybody to protest this time. There was the usual reaction though, "what's all that about then?". I'll have to start making up answers up just to amuse myself.

When the game kicked off my dislike of Llanrug returned; they were using the same tactics as they had against Bangor, or should I say Williams tried to. Glan Conwy's goalie caught the ball and he just charged into him with his elbow up. Williams also slid into the goalie with his studs showing. Upon closer inspection he does actually look like a typical meathead. You could possibly put this down to a lack of reaction time brought about by a smaller than average brain, only if you're being charitable though. On the other hand he could just be an anti-social moron who chooses to act like this in order to fulfil some ideal he has about what it takes to be a "man" in modern Britain. Meanwhile Llanrug scored first.

In the second half John came on for Llanrug and looked good. That said Glan Conwy then scored and drew level. After they brought on a particularly effective sub they scored again. Part of me was happy but another part felt sorry for John. The pressure of the train timetable meant that I had to leave before the end so the cheers I heard on the way to the station must have been Glan Conwy's third goal.
