Naylor, still a twat

Bangor City 2 The New Saints 2
Welsh Premier League

We did very well against the other pro team in the league. (Bleo's first game). Could we repeat the outcome? One unfortunate by-product of that would be that Rhyl gain an advantage in the title race. Therefore winning is not that high on my list of priorities. More to the point the likelihood of a win is probably not very high.

The New Saints came out for the game wearing orange, I wasn't aware that green and white hoops clashed with blue but there you have it. Their kit put one in mind of Blackpool. It could have been worse as one of the subs was wearing a green t-shirt to warm up in and that looked too colourful. Their choice of kit was not the only offensive thing about TNS today; Martin Naylor was playing. Anybody that was at TNS has a good recollection of his assault on Sion.

During the first half Naylor didn't need to use the same tactics as the right back seemed to be coping with Sion. He used skill as his approach which made a refreshing change from the usual approach favoured by Welsh Premier right backs. He even apologised when he accidentally tripped Sion over. There were no goals in the half but TNS looked like the could have scored more times than Bangor could have. Bangor's new goalie Brinias denied the full-timers the lead on a couple of occasions.

Bangor started the second half in a better vain as they created a few more chances, Sion was starting to get a few crosses into the box. Naylor then made his first contribution; a dive. As Sion started to get the upper hand he was felled by Courtney, the erstwhile gentleman at right back. Naylor's second noteworthy contribution was to run over to Sion and offer advice. Irony personified considering his earlier theatrics, unless he was offering tips on further use. This appeared unlikely as Sion squared up to Naylor, which in turn led to the typical footballers responses; crowding around the scene, pushing and shoving like pupils at lunch time. After this incident Courtney started just whacking the ball over the touchline, a tactic he continued throughout the second half. On one occasion he nearly hit someone with a well struck clearance but he apologised, a further illustration of his chivalrous side.

Apart from a few crosses Bangor didn't really trouble TNS after this. TNS finally scored with about 20 minutes left through Carter. Bangor were restricted to attempting to create chances with corners and free kicks. TNS scored with about 2 minutes left through Naylor. The quality of the goal unfortunately cannot disguise the utter abhorrence I feel towards the odious little shit.

Just after the final whistle Naylor provided another incident that would hardly have endeared him to Bangor's faithful. He kicked the ball at the crowd and when someone threw it back and he just stood there blowing kisses in the contemptuous manner of a scally. It seems to me that Naylor is the sort of player who gives footballers a bad name, a la Savage. They strut around dishing it out to all and sundry without having the capacity to withstand the same treatment. They put themselves upon a self-constructed pedestal and cannot be reached be the likes of us. Just to judge from his actions he seems to regard himself as something special. This is despite the fact that he plays in the Welsh Premier League and therefore not a lot of the world's football fans will have noticed his presence. Maybe he has a chip on his shoulder because his brother is obviously better than him. Having said all that he is just a gobshite and I feel less of a person for getting so worked up.
