Wales lose again

Wales 0 Russia 1
Women's U19 European Championships Qualifier, Llandudno

International football has returned to Llandudno! All it needed was a couple of bolted on stands. Karl and Nic saw me walking to Maesdu Park so they stopped to give me a lift, Welsh fans - so courteous!

We arrived just in time to hear the anthems. The Russian one had the same tune as the Soviet anthem. Whilst my thoughts were still on fraternal greetings and five year plans the game kicked off. Wales were again wearing Yellow. This was odd because Russia were in white, maybe our home kit was still in the wash from the San Marino game.

This match was more evenly contested. Wales looked better and Russia didn't really look very good at all. Simple logic may lead you ponder about a country of hundreds of Millions versus a country of 3 million. Surely a country the size of Russia should have no problems finding 11 women of a good standard and conversely Wales should have the opposite problem. Yet Wales were holding their own but few chances created so it was 0-0 at half-time.

At half time Karl gave me a tour of world football via his photos, very entertaining. The second half proceeded along the same merry way as the first until Russia scored in the 65th minute. The goal was a 30 yard free kick that arrowed straight into the top corner. After this Wales pushed Russia back but couldn't create much more than a couple of scrambled chances. Therefore Wales lost again, Karl, Nic and I made our farewells with plans to meet again in Rhyl on Sunday, would our quest for a Welsh victory be satisfied?
