Three Months off

Bangor City 5 Newtown 2
Welsh Premier League

This was our last home game of the season and I was down to do the raffle again. I had to get there early to try to beat Nige's record, which is a tall order (Over £140). Trade was slow at first but brisk once it started. You may turn into an amateur Freud whilst vending tickets. I started to guess peoples' personalities. The yardstick I used was this; buying a ticket meant you were a charitable sort, considerate and noble; those preferring not to but were nasty, uncaring and potential psychopaths. I don't how scientifically valid these classifications are but they helped me to pass the time. In the end I sold £75 worth of tickets, nearly doubling my personal record. As I was selling tickets Sion was named the fans' player of the year.

The raffle duties meant I missed the first five minutes of the game. This isn't a problem normally but today we scored two goals. Unfortunately by the time I got to my usual spot and settled down to watch the first half no more goals were forthcoming. Bangor looked good going forward and we seemed have forgotten about the Rhyl match, a very good sign for next season. As it was a tad warm today I needed refreshments, unfortunately the cafe was unable to supply them. Secondly the bar at half time was also unable to offer refreshment. Therefore I only had the 2-0 scoreline to keep me happy.

The second half was very good; a lot more attacking and three more goals. The heat was making watching uncomfortable; the last scene in Ice Cold In Alex kept playing through my sun-affected mind. Bloody typical this is, Bangor are strolling towards a comfortable win and I'm too busy suffering from heatstroke. From what I did manage to see Bangor were almost spectacular, if only Bleo had come sooner.

Walshy scored the fifth goal with an exquisite free kick. It was even more memorable because of the crowd imitating the goalkeeper; "Left, Left, LEFT!!!" the crowd roared and Walshy duly obliged by putting the ball to the left of the goalkeeper, if only he had heeded his own commands. Newtown scored two to give the scoreline more of an even feel. As we were leaving someone said "See you in three months then": The realisation hit me; I would have to find something else to do on Saturday. While this thought sunk in we went off to the Regency for much needed refreshment. Unfortunately whilst we were there Dewi and I also realised that we had a summer of nervously looking at the Non-League paper for any Bangor departures ahead of us.
