The Return of the 4ft Scallies

Caernarfon Town 0 Bangor City 1
Welsh Premier League

I've got Huw to thank for getting me to Caernarfon today. A lack of public transport meant that I needed a lift, sometimes my environmental side is my downfall. Huw picked me up at about 1 and we got to the Oval with enough time for a drink. It cost me £3.20 for 2 drinks, crikey, they're still at 1992 prices in Caernarfon. I shouldn't really mock though.

After we went into the ground I found Dewi loitering with intent so at least I had someone to talk to before the game started. As the Bangor players warmed up we noticed that there was a new goalie, was this the end of Ian? With so many new players coming and others going it's a bit difficult to keep up with the movements. This confusion would go on into the second half.

The first half saw no goals but Bangor did come close to scoring a couple of times without really looking like they would. Before Bangor got into the game the Cofis looked like they might have scored a couple themselves.

The real excitement, if you can call it that, was reserved for the Cofi scallies. They secreted themselves into our end and started to sing, what they had failed to do in September they had acheived now. Somehow they failed to realise their great leap forward and left for the other end about five minutes later. One shouldn't mock as this was probably enough time for them in order to formulate yarns to pass on to their grandchildren in about 2o years.

After suffering Cofi scowls on our doom-laden walk to the other end at half time I could relax. I noticed that were a lot more people here today than I realised, in fact it was a decently sized crowd. Why didn't this happen more often? At half-time we had McGinness and Antony Wilson conducting a Penalty Shootout to entertain us, thank god we're out of all cup competitions was a thought that came to mind.

The pattern of the second half followed the one from the first half apart from the fact that Bangor were attacking more and looked good. Sion was particulary effective. He produced a masterful bit of skill to show his prowess. The Cofi right back tried to pass the ball pass him but Sion stopped and flicked it over the hapless player's head and then ran around him to set off on another run full of promise. Sion is a real ray of sunshine in our grey and cloudy season so far.

Bangor's policy of signing new players caught up with the fans today, nobody knew who the No.17 was. When he was relpaced 10 minutes after he'd replaced someone nobody knew whether we'd miss him. To be fair to him he did create a chance out of nothing about a minute into the second half; he turned a couple of Cofi defenders and the signs looked good, until he shot.

Bangor scored but it was adjudged to be offside. Caernarfon kept getting close enough to the goal to make you worry but not close enough to make you fret. Bangor scored through Webber and this was met with wild jubilation. About five minutes later the Scallies were back, a rhapsody in polyester.
This time we were ready and the banter was flying, unfortunately as our 12 opponents had a collective age of about 72 the replies were pitiful. Maybe these kids will look back on this, when they pass through puberty, with some pride but that would be a worrying sign for our society in general. The funniest thing is that we were labelled English by them. If I was the Chief Executive of JD Sports I'd be worried about the image of my company.

It was extremely satisfying to have finally beaten them at the Oval and helped them to possibly go down a division.
